  • Via secure telehealth to couples physically located in Missouri at the time of session

We work with adult romantic partners (18+).

This page describes psychotherapy for couples. It is not mediation, legal consultation, or coaching.

Primary Fit Anchor: Repetitive Conflict & Emotional Disconnection

We provide couples therapy for romantic partners who feel stuck in recurring conflict, emotional distance, or breakdowns in communication.

Common patterns include:

  • The same argument repeating with no resolution

  • One partner pursues while the other withdraws

  • Escalation into defensiveness, criticism, or shutdown

  • Loss of emotional or physical intimacy

  • Difficulty repairing after conflict

  • Resentment that lingers long after disagreements

  • Feeling more like roommates than partners

Often, both partners care deeply but feel trapped in a cycle they cannot interrupt alone.

When Couples Psychotherapy Is Appropriate

Couples therapy may be appropriate when:

  • Both partners are willing to examine their own patterns

  • Trust has been strained but repair is desired

  • Anxiety, trauma, or family-of-origin dynamics are affecting the relationship

  • A transition (parenthood, relocation, career change) has destabilized connection

  • You are deciding whether to repair or separate thoughtfully

We focus on identifying and interrupting negative interaction cycles — not assigning blame.

Not the Right Fit

We may not be the right fit if:

  • There is active intimate partner violence or fear for physical safety.

  • One partner is unwilling to participate in the therapeutic process.

  • You are seeking court-ordered evaluations or custody documentation.

  • You require crisis stabilization (call 988 or seek emergency care).

If a higher level of care or specialized service is needed, we provide referrals.

Therapeutic Approach

Our couples work integrates:

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)-informed approaches

  • Gottman-informed interventions

  • Attachment-based psychotherapy

  • Trauma-informed relational work

Sessions are structured and active. We work to increase emotional safety, reduce reactivity, and build effective repair strategies.

When clinically appropriate, individual sessions may be incorporated in support of the couple’s work.
